The New Mob Rule

"For all the meticulous legality and diplomatic decorum of this war's start, its end was as dirty as they come: the former leader of a nation hauled off the back of a truck and shot by an angry mob that was appointed by no one and accountable to nothing. It's an inauspicious start for what the interim Libyan leadership also said was the same moment that formal political transition began."

Here's the rest of Fisher's piece: Qaddafi Was Captured Alive - Who Killed Him?

I'm not here to say that the military assassination of OBL by BHO back when that went down directly led us all, concordantly, to a moment when mob rule carries the day. MQ (or is it MG?), one time friend to many of the world's elite, met his doom at the hands of 42 years of pent up righteous anger. It should have been sooner. Here's a video of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton laughing about the man's torture and death. Her predecessor, Dr. Condi Rice, visited him just a few years ago as an official representative of our government.

We (and by "We" I mean explicitly the U.S. government and the people supporting it, including myself as a taxpayer) have created a new normal for society where torture, assassination, state sponsored murder are all accepted as the most effective ways to resolve differences. Might makes right and we are the mightiest; a tactic not at all different from the boot Qaddafi had on his people for so long. Human Rights matter, even for really bad people. Without them, no one is safe from the violence of the mob.
