To continue, pick your favorite term for the blank above:
- justified military assassination
- targeted-killing
- totally not true. He's been dead for years
- all macheavelian politics to support Obama against a field of Republicans absent a candidate reassuring enough to the Establishment to warrent a midterm switch
- flaunting international law, human rights and due process
- more of the never ending US War on Islam
- righteously delivered justice (by the hand of your flavor God Almighty)
- a US victory, not Oboma's (aka "he's just the commander in chief, not some guy in a flight suit")
- only sorry you didn't enlist in the US Navy 10 years ago, vigorously train to be a Seal, fight your way to the top, and personally kick down the door and shoot the ratfucker yourself
Glenn, as usual, hooks me with his surely not unique point of view on these (and almost all other) matters. I hope he's not alone. Where one falls on the political spectrum, such as it is represented in various public opinions, determines your preferred term for what happened to the infamous villain of the moment. And an authentically evil bad-guy he turned out to be, complete finally in death, and with an all new conspiracy theory to feed an ever insatiably delusional pubic.
I particularly liked Glenn's coining of a new term:
"What Capehart and Cole are expressing is the Osama bin Laden Exception:
yes, I believe in all these principles of due process and restraining unfettered Executive killing and the like, but in this one case, I don't care if those are violated.
Like I said, though I strongly disagree with that view, I understand and respect it, particularly given the honesty with which it's expressed."
I imagine the "Exception" shall prevail as cognitive disconance becomes easier and easier for subsequent generations conditioned to accept it as normal. Much as I've said before, it appears the leadership styles embodied by Bush (unilateral decision making, police state ramp-up, military adventurism) continues beyond his 2 terms in office. Will we ever alter this trend, or is the nature of the position one in which relunquishing power is impossible? Either way, if evidenced by later events today in Yemen, it's here for a while longer.
Travelers, we find ourselves in real doublethink territory. If you look close enough, you can see where this road takes us all. War, it's the only economy we've got.
Okay, here's one for you. Will there be a TSA scan for your next trainride? All aboard!
